Play As We Are is an umbrella for Somatic Sound Practices: practitioners and activities that research sound and movement and the connection, or reconnection, between them.
Our goal is to unite, support and promote various activities aimed at everyone who is interested in exploring this connection. We appeal to musicians and movement practitioners, to artists, therapists, and to anyone who is curious by this realm. We research, teach and create, and are always curious to collaborate.
On this page, and by signing up for our newsletter, you can receive notifications about workshops, courses, conferences and other gatherings, as well as performances and various possibilities in the field, happening around the world and online.

PLAYFULNESSSENSATION
by Play As You Are led by Alexandra Baybutt (UK) and Maya Felixbrot (IL/NL) Series of 3 workshops in November, transitioning from fall to winter Nov. 8th in person, Amsterdam, Nov. 14th and 21st online, 19-21hr CET for movers~musicians For registration and other enquiries email: playasyouare@protonmail.com These three workshops explore interconnection and relating: from Other to Self, from Outer to Inner. 8th November we will be in a studio together in person, relishing connection through seeing, hearing and being moved by one another. The subsequent two online workshops online, 15 and 22 November, will carry us further into personal practice and develop tools and explorations that can be done together at distance. In the quiet Autumn dusk, we make space to absorb the fruits of the summer. Metabolising the effects of practices as we build new ones, we continue our explorations of somatic movement and sound, with inner resonance for outer expression. |
Movement Strategies for String Players led by Alex Welch (UK/NL) and Maya Felixbrot (IL/NL) Regularly held workshops and research sessions, researching movement and mindfulness in string instrument playing, in groups and one on one. The next group session is on Nov. 7th, Amsterdam, 19-21hr CET String players are welcome to join. If you're interested please email: movingstrings19@gmail.com Participation is donation based. The underlying goal of our work is to enable musicians to explore and deepen their understanding of how the body and mind work together, as one, when playing their instrument and making music. We are developing a series of exercises and practices that will help musicians to become more embodied - to become more aware of their bodies. Our practice is based on Laban Bartenieff Movement System, BMC, Mindfulness and meditation. |
